By Travis Engel UFC undisputed heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar will defend his title against the undefeated number one contender Cain Velasquez at UFC 121. UFC 121 will take place at The Honda Center in Anaheim, California October 23rd. It has been since September 22, 2007 since UFC has made it back to The Honda Center. It will be the fourth UFC ppv to appear at "The Pond". Brock Lesnar, coming off a second round arm triangle choke submission of Shane Carwin on July 3rd, will look to take out another undefeated number one contender.
Cain Velasquez is a two-time all american wrestler for Arizona State. In high school he held two 5A state wrestling title out of Kofa High School in Yuma, Arizona compiling a very impressive record of 110-10. Velasquez is currently training at American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose, California not too far from the Honda Center. He trains with such successful fighters as Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, Phil Davis, Paul Buentello and Cung Le. Cain also holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under AKA master Dave Camarillo. AKA's challenge will be finding someone who can match Lesnars size, speed, and strength to help out Velasquez's training. Velasquez will be bringing a perfect 8-0 into his fight with Lesnar, holding impressive knockouts over Jake O'Brien, Ben Rothwell, and the most recently against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110 on February 21, 2010. Rumors had been swirling around that this fight would happen at UFC 119. But due to Shane Carwin connecting on 57 punches, including 47 of which were on the ground in the first round, Lesnar has a medical suspension of 45 days due to lacerations on right eyelid and left eyebrow. Also rumored to be on the card is a lightweight fight between English fighter Paul Taylor and Canadian Sam Stout. Both fighters are coming off a decision losses in their last fight. The fight will mark Taylor's debut in the lightweight division. The former carpenter, turned Mixed Martial Artist is 3-4 in the UFC, three of those fights winning fight of the night honors. Sam "Hands of Stone" Stout carries a 4-5 UFC record with five of them being fight of the night honors, including two epic battles with Spencer Fisher. Whether these two young lightweights might be fighting for their UFC lives at UFC 121, you can bet money in Vegas knowing it will be a strong candidate for fight of the night. // TA[ // |
